The Sherpas of Everest Series: Ang Karma Sherpa

Ang Karma Sherpa comes from Dorphu, Solukhumbu. He summited Everest on August 28th, 1985 via the standard North east ridge route used today. He was a member of the Spanish expedition led by Conrad Blanch He is the co-founded of Windhorse trekking located in Jyatha, Kantipath and runs an expedition business which assists some of the best climbers in the world.

He studied law at Kathmandu’s Tribhuwan University and later studied journalism in Bucharest, Romania.. He has climbed extensively in Nepal and overseas and was the first Sherpa to reach the summit of Everest in the summer of 1985 from the Tibet side. Ang served as the Hon. General Secretary of Nepal Mountaineering Association for the period 1996 ~ 1999.

He is a very well spoken man, and a regular contributor to EverestNews.com. He summited Cho Oyu on 9/20/1984
