Mark Tucker
|
 |
 |
If mountaineering had youthful prodigies like music or mathematics they might
be something like Californian Mark Tucker. Mark grew up hiking and enjoying
the outdoors with his family in the High Sierras, and by the age of 14 had
already climbed Mt. Whitney (4,417 meters), the tallest peak in the lower 48
US states. And uniquely, he spent his High School graduation day atop the
tallest freestanding mountain in the world, 2,019-meter Mauna Loa, Hawaii.
Mark reached Everest's summit on May 10'th 1990 as a member of Jim Whittaker's
three-nation Peace Climb along with climbers from Russia and China. The ascent
was via the North East Ridge. Nor is Everest his only mountaineering
accomplishment. During his 25 year climbing career Mark has made dozens of
trips to Mt. Kilimanjaro, Africa's tallest peak, and 8 trips to Aconcagua, the
tallest peak in the Andes in South America. In addition to numerous climbs
in Mexico, Bolivia, France, Russia, Mark has climbed at both ends of the
frozen world from Mt. Vinson in Antarctica to Gunnjornsfjeld, Greenland. He
has also guided 120 expeditions to Mt. Rainier and has summited the mountain
many times.
Mark has worked as a senior guide for Rainier Mountaineering, Inc., and as
a hunting guide in Alaska. He is a Senior Alpine Mountain Guide for Mountain
Experience.
