EverestHistory.com: Ian Wade

Ian Wade earned the respect of the mountaineering community as a member of the International Peace Climb up Everest. The expedition included 7 American climbers, 7 Chinese and 7 Russian climbers. All 21 climbers reached the summit. Ian’s other accomplishments include a first ascent in the Karakorum, the north face of Eiger and numerous “big wall” climbs in Yosemite.

Ian was a founder and President of the American Mountain Guides Association, which has established a national accreditation and certification standard for American guides. Ian has also worked many years for Outward Bound.

He has worn many hats with in the Outward Bound Schools, including an instructor for the Colorado School, a program manager for the Pacific Crest School and was responsible for risk management and program development as Vice President of Outward Bound USA. Today, Ian is the Executive Director of Outward Bound International.
