On May 12,
1992 Douglas Mantle joined the ranks of those who have
made it to the top of Everest. Doug has an impressive
resume which includes climbing to the high point of each
of the 7 continents, completing both the
Kosciusko and the Carstensz versions of the
seven
summits.
Back home in the States Doug is
an active member of the Sierra Mountain Club and spends much of his time
climbing within the Sierra Nevada Mountains. In fact he has climbed all major
247 Sierra Nevada Peaks five times. He has also climbed the high points of all
the western states.
He is a high caliber, endurance
athlete who often takes off on incredible day hikes in the 30 mile range. He
is a legend throughout the Sierras and acts as a role model for younger
generations and future climber.
Doug also summited Cho Oyu on 9/26/95 as a member of Rob Hall expedition.
