The Sherpas of Everest Series: Ang Dorje Sherpa

Ang Dorje Sherpa came from Theso, Solukhumbu. He summited Everest on October 16th, 1978 via the standard south east ridge route without the use of bottled oxygen! Along with Mingma Sherpa they were the 4th and 5th men to summit Everest without the use of bottled oxygen.

He summited Everest a second time with the Indian Everest expedition via standard south east ridge route without the use of bottled oxygen a second time on May 23, 1984. Sadly he died by a fall on Oct 24, 1984 while on the Nepalese police clean-up expedition, those goal was to try to clear garbage from the mountain and recover the body of Hannelore Schmatz.

The only person to Summit Everest twice without the use of bottled oxygen before Ang Dorje Sherpa was....
